If anyone has kept an eye on the underground music scene in the past couple of years, the name Cabin Boy Jumped Ship will no doubt have crossed your path. The 4-piece electronicore band have been hitting the scene hard since their birth in 2013 and are finally releasing their long-awaited 2nd album “Sentiments”. The band have a signature sound that feels like it came straight out of 2010, mixing electronic dance elements with crushing breakdowns and adding a few modern touches to make CBJS stand out from the rest of the scene. Vocalist Connor Peek and drummer/singer Reece Miller both expressed how excited they were to release this new material after working hard for the last 2 years putting together these 11 tracks and signing a record deal with AFM Records.

Musically, this album experiments with a lot of different elements, from having very catchy chorus sections that’ll surely have all the fans singing along to breakdown sections that could get anyone head banging and moshing, while throwing in a few wild cards in the mix, such as the rap verses thrown in every couple of tracks. It is a very real treat to listen to, especially if you like being kept on your feet with music. The track “Deluded” is definitely a rollercoaster of a song to listen through, with various genre shifting moments that really kept me engaged throughout. The mixing of this album alone is something to be very admired, but I wouldn’t expect anything else from the wonderful team at Innersound Studios, they really have bought out the best in every aspect of this record. The song “Cure” is definitely an eye-catcher for listeners, with a beautiful piano composition and some very wonderful singing to accompany it: this could be the closest thing to a ballad on the record and ends a lot heavier than expected, which was just amazing to listen to.

Sentiments is definitely an album that takes you through a lot of different genres, and I feel this album is definitely the strongest material Cabin Boy Jumped Ship have released to date. I think with the absence of bands like Abandon All Ships, Make Me Famous and early Asking Alexandria, this album will be a big hit with anyone whose feeling nostalgic and wants to take a trip back to their youth, while bringing in a more modern feel that makes this a record for everyone to enjoy. I personally have had the experience to support them on a show and see them grace the Takeover stage at Download Festival, and they were smashing it back then before Covid put everything on hold. This album, the power of their new label and their overall drive has the ability for Cabin Boy Jumped Ship to reach new heights in the very near future.
