What a time to be alive! Automaton is the new album from Swedish auteurs’ Crashdïet. A group whose alumni include Tobias Forge of Ghost fame and Olli Herman of Reckless Love. The guys of Crashdïet are bringing their special brand of Glam, Sleaze Metal, to new heights. Even when waxing about overcoming their woes. But, what to expect from this salacious soundtrack?
Fun. First and foremost. This album is an energetic and enthralling journey most of the way through. Most, because it ends on a power ballad. And, it is not a bad track, either. But, it feels shoehorned in. Thanks to the progression of technology, however, you can shove it in the middle to catch a breath from all the raucous entertainment you’ll be privy to. It will help build up some tension.
Aside from arbitrary placement issues, this album has a lot going for it. Anthemic and catchy, the choruses will wriggle in your ears like a wet willy using olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil at that. And the riffs? Well the riffs will have you fist pumping, air soloing and jumping around like a cat on a cruise ship. It is a lot of fun.
The sound is a heavy shade of gouda too, swinging more to the Pantera side of the metal pendulum. Yet, where Pantera failed, Crashdïet are succeeding. Automaton is their sixth studio album and while members have come and gone the energy and style has evolved into a more robust and cheesy effort; A definitive party album, Automaton is a fun, fresh and fearless album well worth your time, and your virtuoso air guitaring.
