Ferocious melodic death metal/black metal contrasted by raw emotional melodies, Bitter Wine’s sound reinvigorates the Iranian extreme metal scene. Founded by Murray Arisch as a solo project in 2021, Bitter Wine has been steadily gaining traction within Iran’s extreme metal scene recently. In 2023, Bitter Wine released its debut album “In The Soleness Of Storm” via the Portuguese label The Hills Are Dead Records. The music of “In The Soleness Of Storm” can be described as a callback to the 90s melodic death metal and melodic black metal movements. What makes Bitter Wine unique is the band’s peculiar balance of hard-hitting riffs and catchy melodies. Lyrically the band deals with irreverent and anti-ideological themes as well as nihilism, social issues, and depression.
In 2024, after the release of the album, Bitter Wine ended its solo project phase by consolidating a full line-up consisting of guitarist Vahid Karimifard, bassist, Amir Bonakdar, and drummer Hossein “Ermita” Zahedi. With the new line-up, Bitter Wine performed its first live show in Iran, with plans to perform in various countries in the near future.
Today, Metal Epidemic is proud to premiere the bands video for “In the Soleness of Storm”, a deeply emotional and evocative piece that showcases Murray Arisch’s profound reverence and gratitude towards an enigmatic dark goddess he claims to have encountered during his nocturnal hikes in the rugged mountains surrounding Tehran. This mysterious entity, who appeared to him in the stillness and solitude of the night, became a pivotal muse, inspiring much of his lyrical and musical creativity. Her influence permeates his songwriting, infusing it with a sense of mystical and otherworldly presence. In “In the Soleness of Storm,” Arisch conveys his solemn vow to this unknown entity, promising to return and commune with her again someday. Through the song, he expresses a deep spiritual connection and the compelling drive to seek out the enigmatic presence that ignited his artistic passion.
