All In Good Time is a brooding statement of intent from the quartet. There are a mix of styles on display here – there are shades of nu-metal, blues and funk. All these different influences amalgamate into a potent cocktail. The album takes many forms, whilst staying definitively Giant Walker. You can tell that the band have worked very hard to concentrate and develop the elements of their sound into a heady fusion that will help to further set them apart from their peers.

The blurb on their website says the band have “…a shared love for bands such as Karnivool, Soundgarden, Radiohead and Deftones…” and this is evident throughout their sound, without resorting to copycatting or parody. There are light touches of Queens Of The Stone Age and Incubus, and slight shades of Mudvayne in some of the guitar work and drumming, albeit slower and more deliberate.

The lead singer has a mesmerizing voice. There are overtures of KT Tunstall and KD Lang here, but she uses it to great effect here to weave tales of isolation and paranoia. Her vocal delivery is very clean, but there is definitely enough rasp and power there to make sure the music doesn’t outstrip or drown her voice out. Her ad-libbing at the end of Podha is outstanding. Past The Peak is also a highlight on a very well-constructed album.

This debut is a confident, assured first step from a band that has managed to define their own sound, and it will be interesting to see how they develop their sound from here. This is an intriguing foundation to build from.
