If you like a dose of brutal vocals with your female fronted metal, then this album is for you. Adfectus is an absolute powder keg of grunts and growls from start to finish, with some pretty ferocious riffs and drum work thrown in to boot. This female four-piece band from Mexico consists of Kary Ramos (vocals), Rose Contreras (guitars), Sariux Rivera (bass) and Annie Ramirez (drums) but wow they sound like so much more.

The album starts with Abyss, which takes you straight down into the bowels of hell with heavy base riffs and vocal grunts. Under My Skin speeds things up a little with some nifty guitar work before adding in some changes of pace and a darker vocal style. Fear is a flat-out speed fest from start to finish, which hints at a guitar solo that never quite arrives. Inner War is probably my favourite track as there are some attention grabbing guitar riffs and lots of changes of pace and rhythm showcasing what Rose Contreras and Sariux Rivera have to offer. Anger again shows what the band have to offer with more clever tempo switches and some pretty cool drum work. The Flame brilliantly displays the technical drumming skills of Annie Ramirez and her ability to control the pace of the track. Redemption is an absolute grunt fest from Kary Ramos showing her skills as a serious contender in this genre of metal and I love the sigh at the end. Zombiefied closes the album out and that’s exactly how it left me feeling, along with a desire to hear more from INTROTYL in the future.
