Norwegian genre-bending innovators She Said Destroy (est. 2000) return after 8 years in hibernation and have picked up where they left off with their 2012’s EP “Bleeding Fiction” . The new album, titled “Succession” will be released once again through Mas-Kina Recordings.
Three singles have been released in anticipation of this album: Succession, Not Only Bridges and To Ourselves The World Entire. The latter being the album opener, which sets the tone for the album pretty quickly.
Album tracks such as ‘Our Will Be Done‘ and ‘Succession‘ are more melodic pieces, whilst ‘You Will End‘ and ‘Not Only Bridges‘ are far more aggressive and fast paced. ‘Greed Witches‘ is placed somewhere between these 4, yet doesn’t sound out of place. Some amazing basslines carry the low end of this album, and the thick, heavy guitars deliver some good riffs, but can be a little repetitive at times. The drummer clearly knows his way around the kit, and the vocalist is very happy to show off his gutturals here. Even though title track starts off quite melodic, it does become more death/doom metal styled later on, flitting between this and the melody.
Overall, it’s a very diverse album by the Norwegians, full of power. Clocking in at around 55 minutes, this album isn’t too long to get through in one sitting, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it ‘easy listening’, you need to be paying attention to it to really appreciate everything that’s thrown in here, and it requires a few spins to really take it in.
