Event Horizon is the fourth album for Italian Melodic Modern Metal band Sinheresy whose previous outings were their debut Paint the World (2013), Domino (2017) and Out of Connection (2019). Sinheresy craft their heavy and dynamic music around the twin vocals of Cecilia Petrini and Stefano Sain who provide both lighter and darker elements to the accompanying soundtracks. This blend of both sometimes opposing and sometimes encompassing vocals along with some damn good rocking riffs help Sinheresy to stand out from the crowd in what is a very competitive genre.
Sinheresey is Cecilia Petrini (vocals, piano), Stefano Sain (vocals), Lorenzo Pasutto (guitars), Davide Sportiello (bass, keyboards) and Gabriele Boz (drums).
A roaring heavy riff opens The Calling before the pure rock vocals of Stefano Sain gradually kick in, quickly followed by opposing crystal clear vocals from Cecilia Petrini. It’s a great driving opener, that really sets the bar high, with a mean guitar solo mid-song to boot!
Black Spirit has an old school appeal to it with a much faster pace, super heavy percussion and a ‘grab you by the scruff of the neck’ sing-along vocal duet. The more melodic and modern track, The Life You Left Behind, has a much softer edge to it with some lovely harmonious vocals to compliment the lighter soundtrack. A thudding drum groove and finger numbing guitar passage delivers a bit of bite to the tail end of this very appealing tune.
We are back on familiar territory with Castaways; it’s hard ‘n’ heavy with some very brutal vocals delivering a much darker and punchy repertoire to the proceedings. Proper air guitar inducing Metal!
We are all looking for some Brighter Days, and we certainly get it in abundance with this almost purely electro metal song. The vocals are beautiful, clean and harmonious, which serves to completely lift your spirits. Stunning!
(R)evolution is a ‘rifftastic’ fest of heavy bass, hard percussion, brutal vocals and clean vocals fused with Nu-Metal style and attitude. If this was a blade, then listener beware because this is razor sharp in its delivery.
Forbidden Desire is a classic and classy song. The vocals are dreamy with just the right balance of emotion, harmony and true gritty rock mix to make it a tune to absolutely die for.
Event Horizon I (gravity) is a futuristic sounding short instrumental passage leading to Event Horizon II (entropy) a modern metal offering where Industrial and Symphonic elements come together to produce something very special indeed. This fully demonstrates what a huge array of talent and skill Sinheresy have at their disposal.
All good things come to an end, and Event Horizon III (singularity) brings down the curtains superbly. This solo piano piece by Cecelia Petrini and her angelic vocals leaves you in no doubt that you have witnessed something wonderful.
The rock gods have obviously looked very favourably on Sinheresy, and Event Horizon is an album they can be truly proud of. There is plenty here for everyone to enjoy, whatever your genre of choice is. Sinheresy have knitted together many different styles and concepts throughout Event Horizon, which gives each track something a little different that keeps you fully engrossed from start to finish. Highly recommended.
