Review By: Anthony Petitt

The self-titled debut EP from Seattle’s Telomyras is a concise five song affair. First track Cambion starts with some compelling Maiden-esque guitar harmonies, before a thrashy, syncopated main riff. The chorus soars with high vocals, and uniquely mixed gallopy toms. The bridge section is strong as well, sporting a well-executed growl and solid guitar solo work.

Colorless is the tale of two songs: the intro and verses have blazing bass and guitar work, but the tempo slows during the chorus, allowing each instrument to breathe, and allowing the deeply emotional vocals to shine. Add in the tasteful double bass and it’s a winning formula. First Blood may not stand out at first, but the song ramps up in intensity throughout its runtime, and the final section of the final guitar solo is incredible, sounding reminiscent of the iconic Master Of Puppets solo.

Hydra is the most unremarkable song out of the five, far from awful but a bit by the numbers. The final song, Throne Of Ruin, is a more interesting listen, with probably the most advanced musicianship on the release. The whole EP oozes heavy Iron Maiden influence, but the female lead vocals help the band to stand out in the landscape of similar sounding bands. It also doesn’t hurt that the EP has no stinkers!
