When I heard this band was described as Blackened Metallic Hardcore, I wasn’t really sure how it was going to sound, but after listening to the debut album by  Throwe, I found it is exactly what it says on the tin. The album Forfald is a 7-track album that is meant to be played loud, every song coming at you like a huge wall of sound, decimating all in its path.  Kim Rock’s unique vocal technique screams its way through this record, making it one of the many aspects that give this band its stand out sound. Forfald is a very guitar driven album. Every song tackles big hardcore riffs alongside some blackened speed picked melodies. The drums on this album give a lot of breathing room to really let Mads Østergaard and Guillermo Agustin Papetta’s guitar playing stand out more.

When asked about the lyrical themes of the album, both in English and in Danish, vocalist Kim Rock says:

Forfald is about the narratives we all carry and regardless of how we carry them, they all have their dark sides. It’s songs about the individual’s fight with life, for life, in good or bad, a struggle that is very challenging for every single human. We’re living lives of constant decay, where we constantly repair ourselves to become whole”

It’s clear that this band have a strong purpose together and are pushing limits to get that message across. The album was produced by the band themselves and drummer, Mike Price, designed the artwork for the record, with some outside help from Dead Rat Studio with mixing and mastering.

While there are many great aspects to the album, I feel the band are let down by the limitations of the studio; these songs are made for the live stage and I could easily see a crowd go crazy to these songs. But with the restraints of being recorded, it’s hard to capture that while listening through, unless you’re having a one man mosh on your own. I have no doubt that Throwe will go far with this album and I can’t wait to hear what they create in the future, but ultimately, I would love the chance to hear these songs in a live environment. Forfald comes out on the 29th April: Mark the date and give these guys a spin.
