If you like me are desperate to shake off those January blues, then my advice to you is to immediately self-medicate by checking out “In Flight” the highly anticipated second album from Portland Oregon hard rockers, Time Rift. One listen, and you will instantly feel those winter woes disappear as you crank up the volume on the music delivery device of your choice and let those warm and healing sound waves do their thing. Don’t bother with your headphones either, as the neighbours are going to want to hear “In Flight” too, and you really will be doing them a big favour by sharing all that love! They can thank you later!
Never was a band more appropriately named, as Time Rift magically transport you back just over five decades to a period when hard rock really did rule the airways and the whole world loved to rock! I absolutely love this bang on trend cool retro sound with a modern twist, and Time Rift are without doubt right at the very pinnacle when it comes to this nourishing new wave of classic hard rock bands. “In Flight” absolutely rocks from start to finish and will have you completely hooked right from the opening few bars through to the very end, leaving you at a very high risk of obtaining an RSI by having to constantly reach for that darn repeat button.
Time Rift is Domino Monet (vocals), Terrica Catwood (drums) and Justin Kayne (guitars, bass).
I Am (The Spear) kicks things off nicely with a very groovy retro riff interlaced with some superb and deft guitar work that more than showcases Time Rift’s musical craft with a sugar-coated taster of what’s to come! Hot on its heels, the heavier and deeper bass sound of Follow Tomorrow quickly hits that sweet spot and then just keeps rolling with it for the duration! You simply won’t be able to resist singing along, so don’t even try, just loosen up and enjoy the ride, man!
If you love to rock’n’roll hard then “Coyote Queen” will almost certainly have you howling for more, more, more, full moon or not! You don’t have to be Wiley (or Wile E for that matter) to know that this is an absolute banger of a tune!
Showing Time Rift’s softer side, “Into the Stillness” is a short, gentle and emotional interlude that provides another possible avenue of exploration for the future.
Rolling in like a catastrophic electrical storm, you can almost hear the “Thunder Calling” out as this powerful song surges in and blows you away like a tropical cyclone. This is exactly how authentic hard rock should sound! Dropping up and down through the gears with ease, “The Hunter” is at times simply a flat out pedal to the metal song, whilst at others it masquerades as something with a bit more bite and has a healthy helping of punky attitude thrown in to really shake things up!
Title track “In Flight” is right on the money, it rocks, it rolls, it positively burns a blazing red-hot trail through the sky! This album is set to soar high and based on this it’s going to keep flying for some time to come. Up-tempo glam rock anthem “Dancing with The Sun” is a proper old school dance floor filler that will blast the dust and cobwebs away as you get your groove on! It’s fun and it’s fabulous!
With great tunes like this, who wouldn’t want to be “Hellbound” with Time Rift at the helm, as the whole album is as smoking hot as hell! I just know my turntable is going to be working overtime in a few weeks when my copy arrives!
I don’t know about “In Flight” entertainment, but this album is a full on five-star luxury airliner package, with Time Rift making the perfect guardians of this genre revival. We may only be at the very start of the year, but I think “In Flight” may already be a contender for one of the best releases of 2025. I’ve had “In Flight” playing constantly for the last couple of weeks since I was given it to review, so if you too are a fan of 70s hard rock, take the plunge! Music rarely sounded this good, very highly recommended!
