If you like your death metal knuckle-draggin’ and raw, have I got the band for you. Torture Rack is getting ready to release their third album, Primeval Onslaught, and it is filled to the brim with super-heavy death metal intended to bludgeon the listener to death like a character from one of their songs. And what else would you expect from a band that includes members of Witch Vomit, Skeletal Remains, Aenigmatum, and Weregoat, and features Pierce on blood chugging, JG on the excavator bass and execution commands, Tony on flesh-ripping sonic torment, and Seth on skull hammers?
Like the scene of a massacre littered with gory remains, Primeval Onslaught is filled with 10 tracks of filthy death metal that doesn’t play out of the speakers so much as it oozes. With de-tuned guitars and production so grimy you have to wash your hands after listening, songs like Ceremonial Flesh Feast, Decrepit Funeral Home, and Fucked by Death make it instantly clear what you are getting when you put on Torture Rack’s latest offering. Old school death metal fans will be pleased with the 90s era sounds of songs like Forced from the Pit and Bone Snare, but none of the songs on the album stray too far from the oral onslaught of bands like Suffocation and Morbid Angel in their heyday.
Torture Rack isn’t here to amaze you with their technical abilities or insightful lyrics. Instead, they are here to fuck your eardrums with death. If that’s your kind of thing, you’ll want to run, don’t walk, to your local charnel house (read music store) and pick up this slab of disgusting death metal depravity.
