From the moment I first heard the album title-track and debut single The End of Time, in February this year, I knew Wasteland Clan were hot property and a band to look out for in the future. Based on the first three singles, I was absolutely stoked to be given The End of Time to be reviewed by Metal Epidemic, and the album has proved to be everything I expected and more. If you are going to spend your hard-earned coin on any album this month then The End of Time by Wasteland Clan is well worth considering as it is right up there with the very best offerings of 2023 so far!
Wasteland Clan is Lilith Fox (vocals), Mashl J (guitars), Rayzon (lead guitar), Zach Volcanic (bass) and Smoky 616 (drums).
The unofficial ten commandments of Wasteland Clan begins as it should with The End of Time, a heavy riffing song with very dark undertones that has you instantly hooked and sucked into this post-apocalyptic world. It’s followed by the brilliant Dark Matter, a slightly slower track with fabulously light/dark female and male vocals that build slowly up in pace to an explosive finish.
The old school inspired Go to Hell shows off Lilith Fox’s amazing rock voice by taking you on a thoroughly enjoyable journey of challenging changes of speed and tone. Who I Am is a hauntingly gloomy song with some superb uses of echoes and sound bites to create a stunningly atmospheric effect that feels just about perfect on the ears!
The soft start to Revenge quickly escalates to a kick ass hard bass theme with some lovely sing-along vocals to boot. Who doesn’t like a bit of Revenge?
Fight Fire with Fire gives you a little middle eastern flavour taster in a percussion laden intro before bursting into life. The track deviates between slower phases and the much faster chorus, with a guitar solo that is just sublime! Rising Storm shows there is a much more tender side to Wasteland Clan as they deliver a stunningly beautiful and very moving ballad that will clear the dark skies and melt your heart.
The male vocals in Gods of War reminded me so much of a boyhood hero of mine, Lemmy’s voice, that I had to do a double take and check he hadn’t returned to this post-apocalyptic Wasteland Clan world. Cool song!
Penultimate song Messiah is a superbly tight band performance which is composed in such a way that if fully demonstrates the entire skill set of Wasteland Clan and just how good they really are.
Fantastic finale, Emptiness is a fitting tune to close the album as you are taken on an old school heavy metal roller coaster ride complete with authentic axe attack twin guitars that will leave you drooling for more and hitting that repeat all button again and again!
Wasteland Clan have set the bar Olympic high with their debut album The End of Time, so I, for one, can’t wait to see how they try to surpass music of this quality with any future material. I’m pretty sure the Messiah (aka Mashl J), Lilith Fox and the three prophets (Rayzon, Zac Volcanic and Smoky 616) will achieve their mission goal by bringing salvation to the world and raise their numbers if The End of Time is anything to go by. All hail one of the newest brightest rising stars of the metal scene and join the clan!
