If you are looking for a top-drawer Power Metal album to brighten up those upcoming cold, dark and dreary winter days then you won’t go far wrong if you choose Raining Nails debut album, Human Deeds. The heavy ‘n’ riff laden winter warmer Human Deeds also has elements of Symphonic and Melodic Metal demonstrating that Raining Nails are a band with even more pedigree than a top dog winner at Crufts with members of Eternal Silence, Fallen Arise, Oracle Sun and Sound Storm collaborating on the album.
Raining Nails is Marika Vanni (vocals), Giacomo Paradiso (Guitars), Massimiliano Flak (bass) and Mattia Rubino (drums).
We kick off with A New Way to Walk On, a real powerhouse of a tune with a very sweet sting in its tail. The pace is cranked up fully with Chained, a flat-out Hard Rock track that will instantly have you dusting off your air guitar, so you can join the band.
They say Every Angel Has Its Demon, and this darker and heavier offering confirms that. A wicked bass hook plays demon to the stunning finger numbing guitar work and superb vocals. Queen of Thorns adds a bit of Old School style Metal storytelling to the mix that will give it plenty of appeal to connoisseurs of mighty fine traditional Metal and Rock music.
The next headbanger of a song, Headcrusher, delivers a hard-hitting blow right through from your ears and down to your guts. This is what makes Metal the great genre it is!
Close to You slows things down a tad with a nice little ballad that really softens the mood and pulls on your heart strings. No Metal album should ever leave home without one! In the old days, everyone would hold up their lighters to these sorts of songs, but nowadays mobile phone lights suffice.
Following on, Not Strong Enough is a proper power ballad that slowly ratchets up the pace again. There is a touch of the 80s about this tune, with an absolute screamer of a guitar solo deserving plenty of respect.
Symphonic elements play a part in making Anthem a slightly different sort of composition. This is a fabulous shout-out loud track with a fast-pumping bass and spot on obligatory guitar solo.
We take Refuge with the penultimate track as it races along at a fair old rate of knots. You won’t be able to prevent yourself from singing along to the catchy chorus of this horn’s raising tune.
Rage of Justice closes thing out neatly with yet another scorcher, although I am confident that you will have Human Deeds on repeat by the time you get to this point. Classic Metal from a class act!
Human Deeds is a mighty fine Metal album with plenty to offer anyone who loves stylish clean rock vocals and Pure Power Metal (and who doesn’t)? Raining Nails have indeed lived up to their handle by well and truly nailing their name to the mast of must-have metal albums of 2023 with Human Deeds ticking all the right boxes to put it right up there with the very best of the year so far.
